General Info
The TomTom Campervan and Caravan Sat Nav GO Camper model comes with Campervan and Caravan POIs, with live updates via Wi-Fi, handy traffic and speed camera warnings via SIM Card, and useful World Maps included for the super-adventurous.
It is easy to get fully-customised routes for your caravan or motorhome with the TomTom Campervan and Caravan Sat Nav GO Camper. You don’t need to plug the device into a computer to get critical updates as these are automatically loaded via Wi-Fi. This means your stored maps will never go out of date.
If you want to stop off along your route and find a suitable campsite that can cater to caravans and motorhomes for an overnight stay, you can easily find an ideal campsite en route with detailed POIs from ACSI, ADAC, ANWB and more.
No matter whether you want to explore a new destination and plan a new route, or you want to travel to revisit a favourite spot, this device makes it easy to plan routes, check live traffic and save your favourites routes directly from your smartphone, tablet or computer.
Useful features for caravan and motorhome drivers
TomTom Campervan and Caravan Sat Nav GO Camper has been specially designed for use with caravan towers and motorhome drivers and is packed with features that more suited to these users than everyday car drivers.
For a start, the device comes pre-loaded with so many points of interests (POIs) that it will be impossible for you to get bored along your journey. The sat nav will also plan a special route that is more accessible for large vehicles such as caravans and motorhomes to help you get to your desired destination.
As you get the option to enter your vehicle weight and dimensions into the sat-nav, your routes will be planned by the Go Camper using these details to help avoid unsuitable roads that may include low bridges, narrow lanes, unsuitable terrain, steep routes and sharp bends.
As you should always pay attention to the local speed limits the sat nav will alert you to these and your current speed is displayed so you will know if you are exceeding any limits.
The sat nav contains very detailed worldwide maps so if you plan to drive overseas you can feel confident that your routes will be well planned avoiding risks and being aware of any road restrictions that your caravan or motorhome may face on your journey, such as weight limits, height restrictions etc.
Lane guidance and junction view
The TomTom Campervan and Caravan Sat Nav GO Camper offers clear lane guidance and junction views that are very helpful while travelling along motorways or unfamiliar multi-lane roads. This new TomTom model offers the same Advanced Lane Guidance feature that is found on most other TomTom models in the range.
While users say that Advanced Lane Guidance is very similar to that used by Garmin sat-nav models, this feature can create a display on the screen that makes it very easy for you to move into the correct lane, which is especially useful when approaching complicated junctions or roundabouts that exist on a lot of major roads.
This useful feature divides the screen adding synthetic images with animated arrows that point in the right direction for you to take along with vocal guidance.
Lifetime World Map updates
This model comes with free world map updates for the lifetime of your device, so while updating maps on a sat nav can be expensive, especially on older models that don’t come with free map updates, you will be saving money and will always have the most up-to-date maps installed on your device with the latest POIs.
What this also means is that you will get the most reliable information on suitable campsites that have all the necessary equipment you need for a stopover, such as power hook-ups and Wi-Fi connection.
One of the most convenient things about the TomTom Campervan and Caravan Sat Nav GO Camper is that you don’t need to plug it into a computer for any of your essential updates. As the device comes with built-in Wi-Fi it means you simply connect the sat nav to your home network, in the same way as you do with a smartphone or tablet, and all the updates can be done automatically from the screen.
Built-in SIM card
This sat nav model can access real-time information while you are driving your motorhome or towing your caravan with a built-in SIM card, which is very helpful! However, while most sat-navs now offer live services, they often need a paid subscription or will need for you to use your mobile phone data plan to provide Bluetooth connectivity to access the internet.
But having the built-in SIM card is more convenient and efficient for getting your live information and you don’t need to do anything to the sat nav either, so there is no need for any pairing or syncing of your devices for it to be able to connect to the internet.
According to TomTom, there will be no extra charges for using the live services when overseas, which means no roaming charges will be applied. The live services provided include traffic information when planning your route as well as during your journey so you can avoid congestion and other traffic issues along the way.
Summary
This new version from TomTom is great for those who love the TomTom brand and have been waiting a few years for a new model. It is an intuitive device and users report that it is very easy to use.
Thanks to the Wi-Fi connection and the TomTom MyDrive application, it makes planning routes a breeze. However, the only negative users have mentioned is that the device is quite expensive compared to its nearest rival, the Garmin 660 LMT D but those loyal to the TomTom brand should be more than happy to see a new caravan sat nav available on the market.
